The Season of Joy!

'Tis the season for shopping I mean love, joy and harmony. The appropriate expression of love, joy and harmony is to spend money buy nice gifts friends and family will love.

That's all well and good; but for many of us who lead very busy lives these gifts have become obligations that bring no joy, love, or peace, especially if we have to go anywhere near a mall to buy them. And the economic stress on household budgets! I would rather spend my cash resources in other ways. Let's be honest, does anyone over the age of sixteen really need more STUFF?

Now don't get me wrong, I love both giving and receiving. (Richard,-my boyfriend- I want something sparkly and shiny.) But it always means so much more when it truly is an offering of love and joy rather than an expression of love in economic terms---"I love you $40 worth, and here's a gift certificate to prove it"---or obligation, as in the box of candy for the person whose name you drew in the office pool. (This doesn't apply to Healthy Habits gift certificates that are on sale now---just kidding---kind of.) Of course you buy gifts for the kids, but for the adults I recommend doing something different this year.

This month, my suggestion is to make your gift-giving more creative. Make those gifts about love and joy. Bake something, hand-make something, or find a nice treasure at a garage sale. One year I made colored, scented bath salts for my mother and sister-in-law. They loved them. The balls were fun to make and cost me almost nothing. Another year, a woman in my office gave everyone used books that she thought we would like. She had been collecting them for months. I still have that copy of Bridget Jones's Diary. It's one of my favorite books.

Give yourself a break from worrying about how you are going to afford this holiday season. Tap into your creative side like you did when you were a kid, and find real joy of the season. Within.

If you are having trouble tapping into those feelings of joy give me a call, I can help.

Have a wonderful holiday season.
